Dog Friendly Beaches Norfolk | A Guide For Dog Owners

Many people take their pets on holiday and many of the beaches in Norfolk allow dogs on them. Its great to get away on a beach holiday and let your dog enjoy the excitement with you. Listed below are those where dogs are permitted, and if there are any restrictions on areas or dates.

Snettisham

You can walk your dogs but they must be kept on a lead due to nesting birds. East Snettisham beach is a mainly shingle beach,and there is some mud at low tide.

Heacham South and North

Dog Restrictions in Summer Months South Beach Nesting birds around the South Beach must be avoided. The North Beach is mainly a promenade.

Hunstanton

Dog restrictions in the summer months. Dogs are not allowed from the power boat ramp to the northern end of the promenade. Hunstanton beach is a very popular beach with a promenade and attractions and it gets very busy in the summer so it can be an issue for dogs.

Old Hunstanton

Dog friendly and no restrictions. This is a wonderful beach where you can walk for miles and miles. Rarely without a dog walker on the golden sands at low tide.

Holme-next-the-Sea

Dog friendly but with restrictions in some areas cordoned off for nesting birds. Holme beach is a really good dog walking beach that is rarely crowded and you can walk all the way to Snettisham. As with many beaches in this area it does have adjoining nature reserves where dogs must be kept under control.

Thornham

Dog friendly and no restrictions. A lovely beach with a long walk to reach it. When near the bordering nature reserves dogs should be kept under control.

Brancaster

Dog friendly but does have a small restriction in the summer months. This is a very popular dog friendly beach but it does get busy in the summer. The restrictions are as you approach the beach and to the East.

Burnham Overy Staithe

Dog-friendly and no restrictions. A long walk to the beach means it is rarely busy and definitely dog friendly. As with much of the North Norfolk Coast you should take care to avoid nesting birds at times of the year.

Holkham

Dog friendly and no restrictions. A stunning beach with great long walks with or without your dog. As you are near a nature reserves you should keep your dog under control during nesting times.

Wells-next-the-Sea

Dog friendly to the west of the beach but not the West. Dogs are not allowed in the area near the beach huts. When the tide is out there is plenty of room to walk your dog away from the restricted areas.

Cley

Dog restrictions in the summer months to the west Cley backs onto two nature reserves so dogs need to be kept under control. As the beach is also shingle it is not the best location for dogs.

Sheringham

Dog restrictions in the summer months. Sheringham beach is very popular, has restrictions and is so busy that it is best avoided with dogs during the main holiday season.

West Runton

Dog friendly but with some restriction areas as you enter the beach. Once you are past the restrictions this is a good dog friendly beach.

East Runton

Dog friendly but restrictions in the summer months. Outside of the restrictions this is a good dog friendly beach.

Cromer

Dog restrictions in the summer months. Cromer beach has restrictions either side of the pier in summer and can get very busy so best avoided with your dog during the summer months.

Overstrand

Dog restrictions on the central beach in the summer months You cannot walk dogs on the beach in summer but you can walk them on the promenade.

Mundesley

Dog restrictions in the summer months along the promenade Mundesley is a great dog walking beach on either side of the restrictions.

Bacton

Dog restrictions in the summer months between the main groynes of the beach. The restrictions are near the north of the village. Once past them there are dog walking opportunities.

Walcott

Dog restrictions in Walcott in the summer months between the main groynes of the beach. The summer restrictions cover most of the beach running parallel to the road.

Happisburgh

No dog restrictions Happisburgh beach is a lovely beach which is rarely busy so is ideal for walking your dogs.

Sea Palling

Dog restrictions in the summer months in the middle section of the beach. Sea Palling has restrictions in summer on the main part of the beach, but you can bypass it to areas that are dog friendly.

Waxham

No dog restrictions. Waxham is a popular dog walking destination and there are no restrictions.

Horsey

No dog restrictions. Although Horsey beach has no restrictions they need to be kept under control during the seal pup season. The beach is closed off from November to January due to seal pupping season.

Winterton-on-Sea

No dog restrictions. Winterton beach has no dog restrictions. However, it is part of the Winterton Dunes National Nature Reserve so you do need to keep your dogs under control in the nesting season.

Hemsby

Dog restrictions in the summer months Hemsby beach is one of the busiest beaches in Norfolk and has some restrictions, so it's advisable not to bring your dog to this beach during the summer.

Scratby

Dog friendly and no restrictions

Caister-on-Sea

Dog friendly and no restrictions. Caister beach is a dog friendly beach with long stretch of sand.

Gt Yarmouth North

Dog friendly and no restrictions. Great Yarmouth beach North does allow dogs.

Gt Yarmouth Central

Dog restrictions in the summer months between Britannia Pier and Wellington Pier.

Gt Yarmouth South

Dog friendly and no restrictions. Dogs are allowed on Gt Yarmouth South beach.

Gorleston-on-Sea

Dog restrictions in the summer months between the harbour mouth and the ravine at Gorleston. This is another very busy beach and resort so its probably best to avoid with your dog in the summer month.
