The river Brett flows through the chocolate box village of Chelsworth,
its course influencing where the early houses were placed. When you wander down the main street it is very apparent that the people in this lovely Suffolk village are very proud of their
home. So proud that for over thirty years they have opened their gardens to visitors in the month of June.
For holiday accommodation in Chelsworth or nearby visit our accommodation
pages which list - bed and breakfast - self catering - camping and
caravanning - hotels - inns and guest houses.
Up the road is another picturesque village, medieval Lavenham with its
wealth of ancient, timber framed buildings and jetties upper floors
which date from the reigns of Henry VII and Henry VIII. The splendid
Guildhall in market place with its chequered history of town hall -
workhouse - prison and wool store now contains a museum detailing
Lavenhams past.
Even closer to Chelsworth is
Monks Eleigh with its colour washed Suffolk Cottages, pictures of which
used to grace railway posters to attract holiday makers to the eastern counties.
Here you will find Corn Craft which uses traditional techniques to
produce both gift and decorative craft items for the home or garden.
Julian Tennyson the author
of Suffolk Scene and great-grandson of the Poet Laureate during Queen Victoria's time is said to have loved
the village of Chelsworth and I think if he were a visitor today, he would find that its architecture is unchanged..
