A visitors guide to the village of Walcott on the East Coast of Norfolk. The small village of Walcott sits yards from the sea, a place much loved by caravanners.  The village has one or two shops and a good village inn The Lighhouse Pub, that has gained a reputation of serving good quality meals.

Walcott has stretches of fine sandy beaches and there is a slip way for launching boats and jet skis.  The promenade extends all the way to the next seaside village of Bacton, for a nice mornings walk.

Up the road is the village of Happisburgh with its red and white lighthouse, topped in height by Happisburghs church St. Mary.  Both towers command fine views out to sea and over the village below.  Happisburghs other claim to fame are its past visitors namely Sir Arthur Conan Doyle writer of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries and Charles Dickens author or Oliver Twist and Great Expectations amongst many other.  The village even has a resident ghost. Memories of sea tragedies abound in its grave yard, where amongst the many shipwreck victims is a mass grave commemorating 119 sea men from HMS Invincible. These men lost their lives in on the notorious Happisburgh Sands in 1801. The ship was on it's way to join Nelson's fleet at Copenhagen when the tragedy occurred.  

Slightly over four miles away is the 18 acre garden the Old Vicarage at East Ruston with fine views of Happisburgh church and the lighthouse from its lawns. This multi-faceted garden has been designed and created by Alan Gray and his partner Graham Robeson.

Inland is the market town of North Walsham, which has plenty of variety to offer shoppers. The main street has most of the amenities that are needed including supermarkets and the Thursday market, that fills the streets is well worth attending.
