The the remains of Creake Abbey, can be found on the outskirts of the neighbouring village of North Creake.  Founded in about 1206, by Sir Robert de Narford it was originally an almshouse for the poor, but in 1231 it was given the status of an Abbey of the Augustinian.  Further inland is the village of Syderstone, once home to Amy Roberts who married Robert Dudley, the favourite of Queen Elizabeth I.  She died at a young age of a broken neck and throughout history there has always been a lot of speculation as to whether she committed suicide or whether she was murdered by her husband who wanted to marry Elizabeth I. To learn more about her check out our Yesterday Pages.
