Set deep within the Norfolk Broads is the rambling village of
Neatishead. The Norfolk Broads are right on you doorstep with all
the enjoyments of boating and fishing activities. They are a natural
spectacle of interconnected waterways and lakes that have been a popular
destination since the Victorians "discovered" the pleasures of
sailing their waterways in the late 19th century.
Barton Broad at Neatishead is owned by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, a
haven for both wildlife and holiday makers. There is a lovely board walk
that leads out to a viewing platform and the open waters of Barton Broad
with parking available for those with disabilities at Heron's Carr. The
boardwalk is easily accessible for wheelchair users. The other car park
is some distance from the Broad, but on a dry day its an enjoyable walk
through rolling countryside.
The Broads Authority run regular boat trips out to Barton Broad using
their solar powered boat aptly named "Ra" after the Egyptian
sun God. This solar powered boat takes up to 12 people including
wheelchair users on a 1¼ hour trip round the Broad - from Gay's Staithe
at Neatishead. Dates include April, May, October weekends, bank holidays

to book. You can expect to see plenty of wildlife both resident and
visiting.
There are many varieties of boat trips or boats that
you can hire yourself for an extensive range of boats from rowing boats
to cruisers then visit the nearby larger town of Wroxham
under 2 miles away. Other nearby water activities trip our on The
Mississippi River Boat a double decker paddle steamer which is based at
nearby Horning.
Discover the vast amounts of windmills, churches and country houses or
maybe the traditional riverside pubs will take your fancy a little more!
A visit to the award winning RAF Air Defence Radar
Museum at Neatishead is both informative and entertaining. The Museum is
housed in the original 1942 Radar Operations building, and has many
exhibit rooms which include: Battle of Britain, 1942 Ground Controlled
Interception, Radar Engineering, Military Communications Systems, Cold
War Operations Room, Royal Observer Corps, Space Defence, Bloodhound
Missiles, Original Mobile Radar Vehicles. The museum also gives guided
tours which last around 2 hours.
Alderfen Broad another nature reserve and haven for
many species of wild fowl is a little off the beaten track in a side
valley of the River Ant owned and managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
Neatishead village has a local store and a village inn and restaurant,
as well as a number of places to stay stay. For a larger range of shops
then Roys at Wroxham with its food hall, deli and department store. The
village of Neatishead is about 7 miles from the coast and 10 miles from
the historic city of Norwich.
