In the Waveney Valley is the busy traditional market town of Harleston with its thriving range of small specialist shops, this is a super place to stop and browse. There are lots of good quality food shops and an extremely good range of different places to eat.    One of the high spots is a traditional butcher, with a full range of local game and poultry.

The town has a delightful petite thatched church called St. Augustine. The month of July sees the Harleston Carnival. Nearby Mendham was where the famous artist Sir Alfred Munnings was born.  For holiday accommodation in Harleston or nearby visit our Where to Stay pages which list - hotels - bed and breakfast - guest houses - self catering - inns - and camping and caravanning.

Up the road at St. Cross is a former Bishops Palace South Elmham Hall.  Guided tours are available from may to the end of October on Thursdays. There are also waymarked walks around the 450 acre estate.  Or take a tour round a brewery and see for yourself how beers are brewed at St. Peters Brewery.
