Kings Lynn

The fortified South Gate used to be the principal entrance into the town until 1803. It is the only surviving gate of the walls that used to circle Lynn. Gallows were once positioned outside the South Gate and on the 28th September 1708 two children Michael Hammond aged 7 and his sister Ann aged 11 were hanged here having been convicted of stealing.
