The large sandy beaches of Wells are flanked with colourful beach huts and surrounded by a pine tree forest and a nature reserve with miles of winding sandy footpaths.

The beach is around a mile from the quay and can be reached by road, or by a narrow gauge railway which runs from the quay, or if you fancy a leg stretch with a good view you can walk along the causeway which runs parallel to the main shipping channel.

The walk is firm under foot up-to the beach, so its a nice stroll even out of season, giving you the opportunity to admire the many colourful boats.

At the beach you will find a cafe, toilets and a large car park. The beach itself is pretty but watch the tides it is possible to get stranded on a sand bank. There is a mature pine wood running down to the beach which is stunning on a summers day.

There is a caravan park which offers pitch and putt, a canoeing lake and also refreshments. Picture (c) by John Ashley Photography
