Burnham Overy Staithe is located on the North Norfolk Coast off the A149 coastal road, in an area designated as a place of outstanding natural beauty. Burnham Overy Staithe is a small coastal village with salt marshes and channels out to the sea, well known for its sailing and bird watching pursuits.

Here you can take a boat trip (tide permitting) out to the Nature Reserve of Scolt Head Island a seal and bird sanctuary. During the summer months breeding ringed plover and oystercatcher make their home here.

There is a small car park down on the staithe, and a footpath that runs along the sea channel and finally ends up looking over the lovely bay with its sandy beaches as you see above.

Its a fairly long walk and it is not straight, but it is super as it cuts through salt marshes and creeks and leads you to a board walk with the sand dunes and beach beyond.

Here you will find wide sandy beaches backed by high dunes covered in Marram grass.  This part of Norfolk is a Bird Watchers paradise with oyster catchers, avocets, curlews and migrating birds visiting. On these foreshore Little Terns nest, protected by a fenced off area at the appropriate time of year.

Burnham Overy Staithe has a good local pub/inn, which serves many homemade dishes using local produce wherever possible, the pub also has a small intimate restaurant. For shopping try sophisticated Burnham Market just over a mile away with its trendy small shops and restaurants.

This par of the North Norfolk Coast is the place to go for sailing, walking bird watching and lazy days on the beach.
