At the entrance of the High Street of the Georgian town of Holt stands an obelisk, complete with a pineapple on its top.  Although there are no record of how or when this strange column reached Holt it is believed that it was originally the gatepost from nearby Melton Constable Park. 

If you look at the mileages inscribed on the column you will see that they are incorrect for Holt but are right for Melton Constable.

The attractive gaslight which stands nearby is known as Blind Sam and dates from around the 19th century.
