With a chancel of
13th century and a tower of 14th century.
A very light and airy interior with beautiful blond haired angels in the hammer beam roof, twenty two in total. Legend says that Cromwell’s soldiers were billeted in the church and used to use them for target practice. When the angels were restored in the 20th century lead shot was indeed found embedded in some of the angels. There is a magnificent west window, as well as carvings of a dragon, a unicorn and a pelican also in the roof space. The church is used a great deal for flower festivals. Note the Ms on the south porch picked out in stone and flint flushwork, which stands for the Virgin Mary. |
