It is said that some of the brick work inside the building is re-used roman material.

This used to be a cruciform church which means that the north and south of the tower make the form of a cross.

Unfortunately the transepts (either arm of the part of a cross-shaped church) were demolished in the 18th century leaving only their rubble outlines as a reminder.
