Flint knapped overall save for a red brick battlement and pinnacles. On the south wall are the remnants of a great alabaster monument (14 figures and two small black obelisks) to Richard Stone 1607, with an inscription both in English and Latin. It commemorates the fact that Richard and his wife Clemens were married for 64 years and had seven sons and six daughters who in turn produced between them 72 children. Richard died on October 5th 1607 aged 87 but there is a gap left for his wife’s death date, perhaps she’s still alive! |
