The Links Country Park Golf Course is part of the Links Country Park Hotel complex in West Runton, it is one of the longest established golf and hotel centres in Norfolk. The Links was built in 1890 when Queen Victoria sat on the throne of England. The name of the Hotel was influenced by the Open Golfer John Henry Taylor who designed its golf course in 1903. At the time the course was 18 holes and measured 6,125 yards in length and was described by Taylor as "one of the most sporting golf courses in England."

Taylor was one of the pioneers of the modern game of golf.  He won 'The Open Championship' five times in 1894 - Royal St George's - 1895 - St Andrews - 1900 - St Andrews - 1909 - Royal Cinque Ports - 1913 - Royal Liverpool GC, Hoylake.

John Taylor's father died when John was very young, so he had to start earning a living aged just 11. He worked as a caddy and general labourer and then was seconded to the green keeper's staff, a move which laid the foundation for his skill as a course designer later in life. At 19, he turned professional and worked at several clubs eventually settling at Royal Mid Surrey.  During his career he designed and re-modelled a number of golf course around Britain.

In 1940 the Links was taken over by the War Office as a training area and parts of the course were sold. So when the club re-opened in 1950 it had become a 9 hole course. The course combines tight hilly fairways with tricky greens providing a challenge for both able players and beginners (par 33). It overlooks the village, with magnificent coastal views.

This turreted hotel has 40+ bedrooms all comfortably furnished with en-suite facilities.  Special care has been taken to furnish the hotel with a tasteful blend of antique and modern furniture. The hotel also has an indoor heated swimming pool and well equipped gym.

The Francis Frith collection has some old photographs of The Links Country Park Hotel and the surrounding area.
